This past weekend we went camping near Springfield, Illinois for the Wittrock family reunion. Jen's Dad's side of the family get together every two years fore a weekend get together. Jen's Dad has done a lot of genealogical research into the family history way back into the 1600's in Germany. Everyone at the reunion traces themselves back to two brothers that came to America in about 1854 on a boat called the Adonis. Their names were Herman Otto Wittrock and Conrad Wittrock. Herman would be Jen's great great grandfather.
The Wittrock brothers left Germany to avoid the wars that were being fought there but arrived just in time for the American Civil War. This made being in Springfield interesting as this was the home of Abraham Lincoln, America's greatest President, and he was the one who steered America through the Civil War before being assassinated. We visited the Abraham Lincoln museum and the Lincoln home neighbourhood, both interesting. There seemed to be a lot more to do but we had the reunion stuff to do as well so we will probably go back some day for another visit.
Euan is now 4 months old and shows no sign of slowing down his amazing growth. We started him on solid food this week. We tried oatmeal, sweet peas and green beans. He is loving it and so far hasn't been too messy.
