Steamboat Colorado

Just got back from a week in Steamboat Colorado where I went snowboarding with three mates; Mark, Brian and Scott. We drove from Saint Louis to Denver on the Saturday, which was a 13 hour drive. we got there just in time for dinner and a few beers. We crashed and a college friend of Scott's after consuming numerous beers at a pub in Denver. We then got up early on the Sunday to drive through a snow storm up to Steamboat, which is about another 3 hours drive from Denver.

Once in Steamboat the pattern was pretty much get up, snowboard until lunch, have a breeak back at the condo for some grub, heat and rest, snowboard again until happy hour, have a couple of beers and then relax for the rest of the night. We did this Monday through Friday. On Saturday we drove the 16 hours straight through from Steamboat to St Louis. We left at 8am and got back home about 1.30am Sunday morning.

We got snow the first three days which was good but the views were limited and the temperatures were down to -20F with the wind chill. The best day was Thursday, packed powder conditions and clear skies and not too busy. It was early season so only 35 of the 165 trails were open but it was still a good time. The only accident of note was on a blue/black run that had just been opened. Scott was in front of me a went down close to a caution sign. I lost control and in an effort to miss Scott and the sign ended up hitting Scott's shin and snapped the caution sign in half. It was on a 2x2 piece of wood so I must have had a bit of force.
