San Diego

This weekend we went to San Diego to visit an old friend from Scotland who I worked with back in Glasgow. He still works for Jacobs also and moved to San Diego about 2.5 years ago.

We left after work on Friday and had a bit of hassle with the flights. We were supposed to change once in Albuquerque but when we got there our flight was delayed a couple of hours. The airline agent got us on another flight to Phoenix where we could catch a flight to San Diego that would get us in early, however he couldn't get Jen's boarding pass to print off for the flight from Phoenix and said just to get it there. Well. when we got to Phoenix it turned out that Jen wasn't on the flight list and could only get confirmed on the last flight out but was put on the standby list for the flight she was supposed to be have been on. Didn't look good as it was overbooked. However, luck prevailed and we both managed to get the flight and got to San Diego a half hour earlier than scheduled.

When we arrived Martin and Nicola picked us up and gave us a little tour before heading for dinner at a chinese restaurant. Didn't stay up late as we were tired from the flights and lost a couple of hours with the time zone difference.

Saturday we went out for a trip into the desert. It was greener than I thought but still pretty spectacular. We stopped at an area where lots of people were camping out for the weekend in RVs and were tearing around on dirtbikes and ATVs. We had lunch in the only roundabout in the county, it was set up as a little picnic area. We then went back into town and went for some Mexican for dinner and saw some historic remnants from the original settlers.

Sunday we went to Loma Point which had some great views of the coastline. Then we spent the rest of the day flying back home. All in all a great weekend and hope to get back out to visit Martin again.
