On the Friday we set off early and spent nine hours driving to get to the cabin. Got there about five and settled into the cabin, it was nice with a hot tub nice location next to a creek and nice and big.
On Saturday we went to Brasstown Bald which is the highest point in Georgia and hiked to the top of the hill to check out the view. Was OK but a bit cloudy so not a clear as it could of been. Then we went to Helen where they were having an Octoberfest. Was pretty cool as the town had a Bavarian feel to it from the architecture of the buildings.
On Sunday we went for a drive round the local area, did a few hikes and stopped at a new cafe. Didn't stop for long as they were hosting a wedding and needed us out. We also went to Mercier Orhcard gift shop which was pretty nice and got some cheap apples, apple butter etc, and cider even although it was non-alcoholic. Spent the rest of the day relaxing at the cabin, had a few beers in the hot tub, which got done a few nights.
On Monday it was supposed to rain so we spent the day in downtown Blue Ridge. It was quite a small place but had lots of little different shops to check out.
On Tuesday we went on a road trip round the South Highlands Road Trail that took us through South Carolina and North Carolina. We stopped in South Carolina to do a waterfall hike, there are lots of waterfalls in this part of the country. Stopped at a place called Franklin in North Carolina which had a scottish tartan musuem and the restaurant we stopped at had a bunch of photos of guys in kilts and country dancers. Turns out they have a Taste of Scotland event each year. On the way back to the cabin the car broke down in the middle of nowhere, basically lost a day while we got towed to Chatanooga and had the car fixed. Had to spend a night in the Chatanooga Choo Choo hotel, a holiday inn that used to be one of the first rail road stations. Wednesday was spent waiting on the car and driving back to the cabin, took most of the day.
On Thursday we went to Amicolola state park and hiked up to the waterfall there that is one of the largest in this part of the country.
On Friday we drove up to the Smokies national park and did a six mile hilly hike. Very beautiful but views are limited because you are always below the treeline and unfortunately not allow to take dogs into the national park, probably because of the bears but didn't even see any!
On Saturday we bought some souveniers, went on a horse ride and got ready for the drive home on Sunday. Horse ride was good and got to take them to full speed a few times.
All in all a great time and would recommend the area to anyone looking for a holiday with plenty of different things to do.
